Listen: Pretty Pop
`Pretty Pop is more cutesy pop than anything, playing pop music with electronic flavor.' Listen Japan: Pretty Pop (Written by Japanese language) The Women of MP3.com - Cybermuse: Pretty Pop `Pop quiz, people: do the words Shonen Knife mean anything to you? How 'bout Cibo Matto? If these phrases sound more like exotic locales you've never heard of than Japanese, female-fronted pop bands, maybe you should brush up on your Japana-pop. What's so delightful about this ensemble is their 1980s electronica vibe. While the other aforementioned bands tend to come off as lo-fi/college rock groups, Pretty Pop relies more on droning synths and guitars than, well, just droning guitars. The bands Pretty Pop grooves on include: XTC, Strawberry Switchblade, and New Order, and it shows. The result is a fun, yet often often darker flavor of Japanese pop than usual, as evidenced in songs like "Can Can Can". Parts of these tracks even bring The European indie pop band Stereolab to mind. Same genre, different texture. If you're into light, candied music, visit Pretty Pop's homepage, and press play-anywhere! Japanese pop rocks. For another taste (including Japanarama!) visit these stations now playing Pretty Pop.
